
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon, born March 22, 1976, is an American actress. She has been the recipient of many accolades, including an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. Time magazine and Forbes both have named her among the 100 most influential people around the world in 2007 and 2015 and 2006, respectively. In 2021, Forbes named her the highest-paid actress in the world, with an estimated total worth of $400 million.Witherspoon began her career when she was a teenager, and made her debut on screen in The Man in the Moon (1991). Her breakout came in 1999, with an appearance in Cruel Intentions as well as her role as Tracy Flick in the black comedy Election. Elle Woods, a comedy comedy (2001) and its sequel in 2003, gained her wider recognition. She was also in Sweet Home Alabama (2002), a romantic comedy. Her work was critically acclaimed, and she received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as June Carter Cash, in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a decline in her career, during which her only box-office success was Water for Elephants (2011). Witherspoon returned to the screen by producing and starring in Wild (2014). She got another Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. She has since worked primarily in the field of television, producing and starring in several female-led literary adaptations for the banner of her company Hello Sunshine. They include Big Little Lies (2017-2018), The Morning Show (2019-20) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020) All HBO dramas. She won the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the series' first season. She also produced the film adaptations of Gone Girl (2014) as and Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James, a clothing company, and is involved in advocacy groups for women and children. She sits on the board of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and was named Global Ambassador of Avon Products in 2007, being the honorary chair of the foundation.
